Looking for a breader in southern NH

I am looking for a reliable breeder in my area if anyone knows of one. I
would like a Syrian male of just the right age to replace the dozen or so I
used to have a few years ago. I was considering just going to PetSmart or
PetCo but I am not sure if this is a good idea. I came across a smal pet
shop in Londonderry called Pets Plus but the hammie girl never heard of
Syrians. I know they have other names but I have forgotten much about
hammies in general. I was considering asking her about a breeder but I am
not sure if this is a wise thing to do.

Thanks for any help.

I think if you are going to use him as the sire to your new hamster dynasty
you need to know his history/parentage and only a good breeder would be able
to supply this.

Chain pet stores are fine for rescuing the sad looking one at the back of
the tank or the one scrabbling against the glass clearly communicating "buy
me before that horrible child decides she wants me". I dont think they are
really suitable for a young childs first pet either who unfortunately are
their main source of custom.

I've never bred any of mine. I would have liked to but for the same reason
we had the cats & dogs done - I couldnt have trusted anyone else to look
after them and so would have to keep the lot. [Visions of 15 playballs

Actually the story goes like this. I had 10 accidental hammies that started
out as three pets for three young kids next door that I sat for. They ended
up becoming a bit to friendly so I became rewarded with more than I
bargained for. I was rewarded with being the sole care giver for the kids
and the hammies. Eventually I lost them all. Kids and hammies. So now after
a few years of wishing I have decided I am ready for one more hammie for old
times sake. I do not intend to breed but only to have a symbol of what I had
in the past. I want to get a good healthy one that will be around as long as
possible. I guess I could consider a rescue operation though. I have no
other pets or kids. Just old me and the old lady :)

The kids left home to buy their own, the bills went down drastically and I
thought I'd miss them for longer, but didnt. They are both local and pop
in regularly (mainly to borrow something it seems - I've started keeping a
list of items now so I know whos got them!!!).

But its funny how empty the house feels without a hamster.

Some of my(our) hammies got around in the homestead as well as the adults.
Escape was a regular adventure and found that at least one learned to manage
the trip to the second floor bedroom which included a climb of the entire
stair case. I first found out that I had a visitor when I felt a furry
feeling at my toes while reading the morning email. On had a habit of
falling fast asleep on the pillow end of the bed. Looked like just like a
baby that belonged there.

Now I am looking for the family album that I have on one of my archived
hard drives.
